Recruiting Mustangs

In accordance with DoD MOU para 3.j

  • Neither WNMU nor its agents, or affiliates engage in misrepresentation or payment of incentive compensation as part of efforts to unfairly eliminate, deceive, or abuse marketing aimed at Service members
    • WNMU prohibits the use of inducements, commissions, bonuses, or other incentive payments based directly or indirectly on securing enrollments or federal financial aid (including Tuition Assistance funds) to any persons or entities engaged in any student recruiting, admission activities, or making decisions regarding the award of student financial assistance.
  • WNMU prohibits the use of high-pressure recruitment tactics
    • Does not make multiple unsolicited contacts (3 max), including contact by phone, email, or in-person.
    • Does not engage in same-day recruitment and registration for the purpose of securing Service member enrollments.
  • WNMU Adheres to New Mexico State Law and the Governmental Conduct Act Section 10-16-3 “No legislator or public officer or employee may request or receive, and no person may offer a legislator or public officer or employee, any money, thing of value or promise thereof that is conditioned upon or given in exchange for promised performance of an official act.” Any person who knowingly and willfully violates the provisions of this subsection is guilty of a fourth-degree felony and shall be sentenced pursuant to the provisions of Section 31-18-15 NMSA 1978.

Approved WNMU Courses

In accordance with DoD MOU para 4.d

  • WNMU directs all Active-Duty Military Service members to speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their Military Service prior to enrolling the student in the institution.
    • Students who decide to use Tuition Assistance will be enrolled only after the TA is approved by the student’s Service.
      • Military students may be pre-registered for a class in order to secure a slot in the course, but the enrollment will not be finalized until the TA is approved.
    • It is the student’s responsibility to indicate that they are Active Duty servicemembers intending to use Tuition Assistance.

WNMU Financial Aid

Per DoD MOU para 3.h

  • Before offering, recommending, arranging, signing-up, dispersing, or enrolling Service members for private student loans, WNMU provides servicemembers access to an institutional financial aid advisor who will make available appropriate loan counseling, including:
    • Providing a clear and complete explanation of available financial aid, including Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
    • Describing the differences between private and federal student loans to include terms, conditions, repayment and forgiveness options.
    • Disclosing WNMU’s student loan Cohort Default Rate (CDR), the percentage of our students who borrow, and how its CDR compares to the national average. If WNMU’s CDR becomes greater than the national average CDR, we will disclose that information and provide the student with loan repayment data.
    • Explaining that students have the ability to refuse all or borrow less than the maximum student loan amount allowed.
